Eco-Friendly Building Materials and Construction Technique in India.

Eco-Friendly Building Materials and Construction Technique in India.

Abstract:
Eco-Friendly is that the act of living with intent. The intent is concentrated on not creating harm to the environment through interactions. There are various technologies and materials developed by various research organizations, innovators and makers in India that are beneficial within the housing construction. The eco-friendly building materials represents a response from the building sector intended to scale back the environmental cost of creating and using buildings. within the housing industry, the selection of sustainable structural materials during the planning phase results in the move towards more sustainable construction. Therefore, there's a requirement to pick more eco-friendly building materials to be utilized in construction. The paper reviews a number of the important fundamentals on which green engineering is predicated and shows how the benefits offered by green materials are often harnessed for societal, economic and technological benefits.
Aim: To review the eco-friendly building materials and construction techniques used presently in India.
Objective:
• To study the minimal impact on the local infrastructure.
• To analyze new methods of labor and manufacture that are less harmful to the environment.
• To study great longevity and price-effective construction.
• Comparative study between conventional and eco-friendly building materials using sustainability measures.
Methodology: The distribution of urban growth in the world has large implications for resource demand, environmental degradation, technological development, and global trade building materials. In terms of reducing global environmental the impact of building materials production and use, one of the foremost important factors to transfer low pollution and energy-efficient production technology and resource management programs to developing countries like India. The eco-friendly artifact is people who provide appropriate service and the lifetime with minimum maintenance while minimizing the extraction of raw materials, the pollution from, and energy consumed by manufacturing and use, which have the utmost potential for reuse or resource recovery
·        Properties of eco-friendly building materials and techniques are shown in fig. 1

Material / Product selection criteria:

• Resource Efficiency: It includes properties like recycled content, natural/renewable, resource-efficient manufacturing process, locally available, refurbished/remanufactured, reusable/recyclable and durability.
• Indoor Air Quality: IAQ is enhanced by utilizing materials of the following properties: low or non-toxic, minimal chemical emission, moisture resistant and healthfully maintained.
• Energy Efficiency: This mainly refers to the energy used for making the concrete. Those materials are preferred that need a minimal amount of energy at the time of construction of the concrete.
• Water Conservation: Materials that help us and conserve water in landscaped areas are preferred to be used or even help reduce water consumption in building materials.
• Affordability: Affordability can be considered when building a product life-cycle costs are comparable to conventional materials or as a whole, are within a project-defined percentage of the overall budget.
List of Some Eco-friendly Indian Building Materials Technologies:
Bricks / Blocks -
Stabilized compressed earth blocks Fly ash Lime Gypsum bricks
Clay Fly ash burnt bricks Marble slurry bricks
•Boards & Panels Coir Cement board
Ferro cement wall panel Precast concrete L-panels Fiber Reinforced wall panels
•Roofing sheets -
Pre-cast walling roofing Bamboo mat corrugated sheets Ferro cement roofing channels
•Others -Rat trap bond Pre-cast concrete do r/window frames Fly ash/Red mud do r & panel product Glass Reinforce Plastic door frames Fly ash Cellular concrete
Comparative study:
A prototype of two-story was constructed using eco- friendly building materials A sustainable decision the support system was used to compare between structural building materials of the to structural systems. The results showed that the eco-friendly system had a better sustainability rank (67%) than the conventional system (56%) and the Eco-friendly system was better than the conventional system during the three phases of total life cycle assessment by 11%, 0.5%, and 9%, respectively.

Conclusion:

The study shows that with the use of eco-friendly building material rather than convectional building material and techniques sustainability can be attained which is less harmful to the surrounding environment.
A large variety of green building material is available within the subcontinent of India which can be replaced from convectional building material at different stages of construction of the building.
